This bold and complex Oolong tea is one of the most famous teas in China as well as one of the most popular teas in the world.  Our Da Hong Pao is zheng yan (Chinese 正岩 - "in the rock"), meaning that it is grown in ideal terroir in the original yancha (Chinese  正茶 - "rock tea") growing region inside Wuyishan National Nature Reserve, which is a UNESCO Heritage Site. The liquor is warming and complex with a distinct minerality only found in teas from this area. Wuyishan produces teas with a distinctive flavor from the rocky terroir of the mountain cliffs.

Known also as Big Red Robe, Da Hong Pao is one of the Top Ten Famous Chinese teas. Da Hong Pao Oolong Tea is produced in the Wuyishan Mountain area of North Fujian, and from the tea cultivar Da Hong Pao. The name comes from a story that the three mother trees of Da Hong Pao were once covered by the red robe taken from a grateful Imperial official, who was saved when he was a young student by the monks who managed the three tea trees. Thus the tea trees got their name Da Hong Pao-Big Red Robe.
